Yi signs with Milwaukee Bucks

WASHINGTON — Chinese forward Yi Jianlian (EE jee-AHN-lee-AHN), has signed a multi-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, the team reported on Wednesday.

“We were thrilled to be able to draft Yi Jianlian in June and are equally excited to sign him to a NBA contract as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks,” said general manager Larry Harris according to a statement on the team website.

Yi signed the contract in Hong Kong following negotiations with Chen Haitao, owner of the Guangdong Tigers, his former team. He is expected to join the Bucks for training camp in Wisconsin on October 1.

The terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed.

The Bucks drafted the 7-foot (2.13-meter) Asian star with the sixth pick in June’s National Basketball Association Draft but had until now been unable to strike a deal similar to the one that brought 7-foot-6 (2.29 meter) star Yao Ming to the Houston Rockets.

On Sunday, August 19, six adults were received as members of Cordero de Dios (Lamb of God) Lutheran Church in Moca, Dominican Republic.

In a special service, Pastor Alex Torres (back row, left) extended the hand of fellowship to these new members. What a joyous occasion! There were many hugs and handshakes of welcome, celebrating our unity in Christ. May the Lord preserve these souls for His eternal kingdom.

Dr and Mrs Lawrenz came for a visit and the good doctor joined Kevin for a bike ride,

ALS or Asia Lutheran Seminary, is our WELS Seminary based in Hong Kong. Dr Lawrenz and wife, Phoebe, came to Taiwan in late August for teaching an Old Testament Theology course and to fellowship with the Stellicks in Central Taiwan.

There are 3 evangelists in Taiwan that are continuing their theological studies and other interested church members who have audited the classes. Pray for the future of our Seminary work in Asia that we may equip this generation of Chinese to share the unconditional gospel of Jesus Christ with the billion-plus people in the greater-Chinese world.
