In 1975 Mark Johnston married Jane Gurgel and through the years they were blessed with five children.  His pastoral work took him to Bowdle, South Dakota – Deltona, FL – Waunakee, WI –and Spooner, WI, before accepting the call as missionary to Malawi, Africa.

He has been serving Beautiful Saviour of the Lutheran Church of Central Africa since 2004.  The congregation was established as an English speaking congregation in Blantyre, Malawi.  His wife is also quite active in the work of the church, serving as organist, teacher, and using her skills as a Registered Nurse for a weekly “health hour.”

Of the importance of his work in Malawi, Mark writes, “People die very young in Malawi.  No one knows if they will see the end of the week.  Sickness and death attack often and
unannounced.  They face their final destiny early in life.  We must tell them about Jesus – today!”
