Saying Good-Bye, Mexican Style

p1050836.JPG

Last Sunday we bid farewell to our current Vicar Steve Lehmann. Steve arrived last summer, and is now headed back to Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary to finish his studies. To wish him well, our congregation held a party at a local quinta (sort of like a private park, Mexican style). The place had a small pool, trampoline, swings, and a place to prepare and serve food. The kids spent the afternoon playing on all the fun equipment, and the adults chatted in the shade.

For dinner, we had a discada, which is a local specialty. Invented by bricklayers, this dish is made by heating up a disc over an open fire (bricks are often used to create a makeshift firepit). Meat and veggies are grilled on the disc, and then served in tortillas. It was delicious! Trinity liked it so much she ate almost as many tacos as me, and I’m seven months pregnant!

We wish Vicar Steve the best in this upcoming year and in his ministry. We know that God will be with him, every step of the way, as he begins a new period in his life.
