Welcome to the neighborhood

Often we hear that commercial and residential developers, community leaders, and ordinary neighbors are reluctant to have churches in the area. Some communities seem to go out of their way to make it difficult for churches to find places to worship, purchase land or build sanctuaries. How refreshing to hear that this isn’t always true! Could it be that God is still in control?

Shepherd of the HillsShepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Las Vegas, Nev., has it’s first newspaper write-up.  Well…ok…we’re not mentioned by name, but we are referred to!  If you get the neighborhood newspaper, the Centennial View, the front  page article is on the “Village of Centennial Springs Still Growing.” On page two the article continues and that is where we come in.

McCarty said three new tenants are in the final stages of negotiations and will be coming to the Village soon, although he couldn’t name  them.  They are a clothing store, a state agency, and a church.  The church will be located in a building away from the main street.

“One of the unique things about having a church in a place like ours is that the times when they are the busiest is when the commercial aspect is least busy,” he said.  “When you’re building a mixed-use community like this, one of the factors you’re looking for is determining parking requirements, and the church works well in that consideration.  We’re quite excited about that (tenant).”

I thought it was pretty cool that we were mentioned in the article and get to be a part of this new complex.  Check it out in the paper and find out a little bit more about our future home too!
