Sharing God’s Word in Missouri

Rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of members of Apostles, Dardenne Prairie, Mo., on April 19, as they dedicated the Apostles Recreational Christian Center.

On this day people enjoyed food and fellowship well into the evening. An emotional Pastor Shevey addressed his people as a family of believers who know what their mission is in the growing community west of St. Louis and bordering the Winghaven Community, home to a large MasterCard center. Pastor Shevey has served Apostles as pastor since his assignment to explore the area and begin the congregation in May 1999. First worship was held on June 11, 2000, with 42 in attendance. The Knights of Columbus Hall served as temporary worship place since that time, and the parsonage has been command central for most other congregational meetings and fellowship gatherings.

The Apostles Recreational Christian Center’s multi-purpose room seats 200 for worship and can quickly be transformed for other uses during the week. To connect with the community, the congregation holds programs for children, including Power Hour and an annual soccer camp.

Future plans include a gymnasium and a larger worship/spiritual growth center, both of which will be attached to and use the large welcome area of the initial facility. The congregation is grateful to WELS Church Extension Fund for working with them on the land purchase and the building project.
