What is Builders For Christ?

Builders For Christ (BFC) provides workers to help build churches, schools, parsonages, and fellowship halls at an affordable price.

BFC is made up of 350 male and female members from 17 states, who have helped with general construction, serving meals, sweeping floors, and general clean-up at more than 80 worship facilities across the United States, Africa, Japan, Antigua, and Grenada.

Dale Mueller, BFC administrator, commented on some of his favorite experiences with BFC. “Meeting people from around the country who are fellow believers and willing to share their faith with others is great,” Mueller said. “Spending time on a project and working hand-in-hand with these volunteers, and seeing projects go from lines on a paper to a worship service held in the building has to top the list of memorable experiences.”

BFC was founded in 1990 by the WELS Board for Home Missions and became part of WELS Kingdom Workers in April 1994 with Dale Mueller as the full-time administrator.

Mueller reflected on some of the changes since he started. “More people are involved,” Mueller said. “In ‘94 there were about 60 people on the roster, now there is over 350. The number of projects have increased from two per year to between five and six per year. The type of projects have grown in size and who we do them for.”

Mueller is proud to be a part of BFC and explained why. “The willingness of our people to give freely of their time and talents to build a church that they will seldom, if ever, worship in,” Mueller said. “To leave their homes and families for several weeks at a time and live in an RV or camper, just to work for the Lord. We are also proud of all of the buildings we have built, with the help of God, and knowing that the Word is preached in these structures.”
